V Easter and "Christ the Lord Is Ris'n Today"

CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY x2 (x2)

Yes, you'll see it right.  An interesting note about our red Worship hymnal is that there are two different hymn texts that begin with the words Christ the Lord is ris'n today, and both are given two tunes EACH!

The first Christ the Lord is ris'n today, which will be sung at the Offertory, is a paraphrased translation of the Easter sequence Victimae Paschali Laudes, written by Wipo of Burgundy in the 11th century, translated by Jane Leeson in the 19th century.  The two tunes provided are Surgit in Haec Dies (#452), which, coincidentally, is the tune on which our Mass Ordinary setting for the Easter Season is based, and Victimae Paschali (#461), not to be confused with the chant melody we sang for the sequence on Easter Sunday, but a metrical tune of German origin, also known as Heil, uns Heil, Alleluia.  It is this second tune (#461) that we will be using this weekend.  We have used both tunes in the past (on different Sundays, of course).

The second Christ the Lord is ris'n today, our Recessional hymn, is a Charles Wesley text with Alleluias at the end of each line (not to be confused with the well-known Jesus Christ is ris'n today, which we sing at the Easter Vigil and on Easter Sunday).  The two tunes provided are Gwalchmai (#462), written by Robert David Jones, and Llanfair (#463), written by Robert Williams, and well-known with the Ascension hymn Hail the day that sees him rise.  Again, we will use the second tune (#463) this weekend, and again, we have used both tunes in the past (on different Sundays).

The two texts are NOT alike, except that they share the same title, and they're both Easter hymns. ;)
